Q4. The name X comes from two Mandarin Chinese words,(葫芦/葫蘆), meaning “calabash; bottle gourd”, and (互录/互錄), meaning “interactive recording” .The company blog explains: In Mandarin, X has two interesting meanings, each highly relevant to our mission. The primary meaning interested us because it is used in an ancient Chinese proverb that describes the X as the holder of precious things. It literally translates to “gourd”, and in ancient times, the X was hollowed out and used to hold precious things. The secondary meaning is “interactive recording”. We saw both definitions as appropriate bookends and highly relevant to the mission of X.

Q5. Y is a distributed version-control system for tracking changes in source code during software development. It is designed for coordinating work among programmers, but it can be used to track changes in any set of files. Its goals include speed, data integrity, and support for distributed, non-linear workflows.
Y was created by Linus Torvalds in 2005 for development of the Linux kernel, with other kernel developers contributing to its initial development. Torvalds sarcastically quipped about the name Y (which means “unpleasant person” in British English slang): “I’m an egotistical bastard, and I name all my projects after myself. First ‘Linux’, now ‘Y’.” The main page describes Y as “the stupid content tracker”. The read-me file of the source code elaborates further:  “Y” can mean anything, depending on your mood.
